Dell Inspiron 8200 Review

Well equipped and very fast, this laptop will allow you to run the most demanding of applications. It is only let down by the autonomy of its battery, 2 hours 50 only with a full charge.

With its Pentium 4-M at 1,7 GHz and its GeForce 4 Go graphic card, the Dell Inspiron 8200 has the best there is in terms of microprecessor and graphic card for laptops. With its 15 inch high definition screen you can use it as your main computer, whether in your house or at work. Financial analysis, 3D animation, video editing, gaming...it can do it all !

This exceptional characteristics mean however that the Dell Inspiron 8200 is let down by a few things. Weighing in at 3.7 kg it’s heavy. It is expensive, around 3 500 euros. Lastly, it has a poor autonomy, only lasting around 2 h 50 on a full charge. When traveling you will have to bring the AC adapter with you, which brings the total weight at 4,3 kg.

Dell Inspiron 8200 - Great for Gaming

The Dell Inspiron 8200 is one of the most powerful notebooks around. It is only 7% faster then its predecessor, the Dell Inspiron 8100, which is equipped with a Pentium III-M at 1,2 GHz. If we only look at the microprocessors’ performances, the Pentium 4-M 1,7 GHz is only 1 % faster than the Pentium III-M 1,2 GHz. But the Dell Inspiron 8200 deals a lot better with 3D objects thanks to the GeForce 4 Go. In that case, it is 1.9 time faster than the Inspiron 8100 with its ATI Radeon 7500 !

Playing Evolva at a resolution of 1024 x 768 , the fluidity is excellent and allows to play at 115 frames per second. Such an ability for 3D rendering make the Dell Inspiron 8200 well able to handle CAD softwares such as Autocad from Autodesk. The high definition of the screen, 1600 x 1 200 pixels, make it a pleasure to work with. The high definition also comes handy for picture touch ups. But when writing on a text editor, text characters are very small so in order for it to be easier on the eyes you will have to activate the zoom at 150% when using MS Word and choose the option "use big icons" when personalizing your Windows Desktop.

The Dell Inspiron 8200 also stands out thanks to its connecting capabilities. The DVD-ROM player can either display movies on the screen or on a TV thanks to a TV-out connector. This TV-out connector can also be used to display your multimedia presentations on a big screen. The FireWire connector makes it possible to plug in a digital video recorder to make some video editing.
